Wondering what has been going on in my studio over the summer? Well here is a glimpse into the piece I have been spending all my time on this summer. It's still in process so please excuse the lack of refinement on some things. It's piece inspired by sociology so it's focus is on society and individuality inside of society, but that's all I am going to say about it for now.
Also yes those are pearls, real pearls. A vast majority are freshwater straight from China still in the oysters. Running total of 438.

In progress site-specific wall installation I am working on. The circles are laser cut from sheets of basswood and then connected using stainless steel jump rings. This portion is less than a tenth of what I want the piece to be.
The final project for the welding studio was childhood memory. So I created a box that contains my childhood memories which are written on paper that I crinkled up and shoved inside along with a strand of lights (not on in the picture) to illuminate the inside of the box. It is to represent how precious memories are and how we want to keep and protect them.
For our second assignment in the welding studio we were given the project of creating a body extension. I instantly thought of wearable pieces and then quickly disregarding those in favor of creating a violin. I have been slowly learning the violin and each time I pick up to practice it becomes an extension of myself so that was my inspiration for this piece. Though it is to scale for a full size violin; it is unplayable as the strings (actual violin strings) are only attached by metal wire. I would love to make one that was playable, but a lot of research is needed before doing that.
First semi finished piece from school. The project was container/contained. Now that I know how to weld (at long last) I can go back into it and weld it together making it able to be displayed on the wall or hanging from the ceiling. Contemplating turning it into a light. Would love to make a HUGE version!
